5 things to do in New Orleans while there for CTI

by twhite 9. May 2012 06:40
So you are going to CTIA this year in the beautiful city of New Orleans. In between meetings, lunch appointments, and walking the show floor, you’ve got to find some time to explore the city. Since your time is limited, we took the guesswork out of things. Check out this quick guide we’ve complied to help you out.

  1.  Relax in Jackson Square. Located in the heart of the French Quarter, you absolutely cannot miss a visit to Jackson Square. Artists and merchants alike gather at the square, so you can be sure to get a feel for the New Orleans flair when you’re there. After spending all day on the show floor walking around on your aching feet, you can rest them on a bench at Jackson Square in the shade of an oak tree.

  2.  Take a ride (or two) on a streetcar. Traveling by streetcar is a great way to see the city. You can hop on any of the three lines, (the St. Charles, the Canal Street, and the Riverfront), all of which begin at the heart of the city and branch outward. For only $1.25 one-way, this is a great way to see the city.

  3.  Eat. New Orleans has some of the best food in the country, so don’t miss out! I know you’re concerned about your diet, but just leave it at home. Hey, it will still be there when you get back! Besides, you’re probably burning thousands of calories just by walking that CTIA show floor.

  4.  Take a walk down Magazine Street. If you aren’t too sick of walking by now, don’t forget to take a stroll down Magazine Street. According to neworleansonline.com, “no place in New Orleans outside the French Quarter beats Magazine Street. A six-mile-long stretch of this Garden District and Uptown thoroughfare features some of the best antique stores, art galleries, craft shops and classy boutiques to be found anywhere in the city.”

  5.  Listen to some live music. New Orleans just wouldn’t be New Orleans without a dose or two of live music, and Frenchman Street is just the place to hear it. Make sure and take a listen in between your busy stay.

Don't forget to come see us in booth 1925! What are you doing this week in New Orleans? Let us know in the comments below or leave us a message on Facebook or Twitter.

iPad 3 Expected to Have 4G Connectivity

by twhite 14. February 2012 09:55

Have you heard the news? According to a Wall Street Journal report, Apple’s next version of the iPad will feature 4G LTE connectivity on both Verizon Wireless and AT&T. @PCWorld claims that the device, dubbed the iPad 3, is expected to be unveiled March 7 and may come with a higher-resolution display and a quad-core chip.

See the excerpt from the @PCWorld article below--

"Apple is quiet as usual on the new iteration of the iPad, but next month the iPad 2 will be one year old and an updated version is expected from the company. Last year, the iPad 2 was launched on March 2. It has since sold more than 43 million, maintaining Apple’s position as market leader despite a flurry of rival Android tablets.

Details about the iPad 3 are very thin yet pundits seem to have reached a consensus on a core set of improvements for the new tablet. A high-resolution Retina Display is hot-tipped for the iPad 3, doubling the current iPad's resolution to 2048-by-1536. While production has reportedly begun for the display, some argue the improved screen could make the iPad 3 slightly thicker -- though it would be unusual of Apple to launch a new product that’s thicker than the older version."

Tech Tip Tuesday--What Causes Dropped Calls?

by twhite 7. February 2012 09:49

Today we're talking about dropped calls. Everyone has had at least one run in with the pesky things, am I right? You know how it goes...you're on the phone having a deep conversation about the meaning of life, and all of a sudden, the person on the other end is no longer there. But, have you ever wondered what actually causes dropped calls? Dropped calls can be caused by a variety of things, but here are some factors:

  • The phone is too far away from the cell tower
  • There are natural or man made obstructions in the way
  • You are using your phone inside a car or a buildling
  • Inclement weather
  • You are in a dreaded "Dead Zone"

For more information about dropped calls and to see how Wilson Electronics can help, check out the video below--

You may get that little beeping noise letting you know your call was dropped, the "Call Failed" message, or you may get no notification at all. Whatever the outcome, it's hard to deny that those dropped calls get old quickly! Thank goodness for Wilson boosters like the Wilson Sleek, that prevent dropped calls, limited range and slow data rates for cell phones and data cards.

Wilson Electronics Honored for Product Excellence in the M2M Market

by twhite 2. February 2012 13:16

Compass Intelligence and NE2NE.com honored Wilson Electronics manufacturer of North America’s top-selling line of cellular signal boosters and antennas, with an award for product excellence in the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications market.

Wilson was named winner of the A-List in M2M Award in the Antenna and Signal Amplification category. The company’s products boost signal strength in areas of weak cellular signal in fixed or mobile applications, including rural locations and inside concrete and metal structures where building materials can block signals.

NE2NE's inaugural A-List in M2M Awards recognizes the top vendors in the M2M market. The A-List in M2M honors organizations at the pinnacle of the M2M world, and includes companies that offer the best M2M products, services, and service enablement solutions in the industry.

“An unreliable signal can be the weak link in the chain for companies that rely on the cellular network for M2M communications,” said Brian Allred, Wilson Senior Account Manager, M2M. “Acquiring and maintaining a reliable signal is critical to the timely delivery of remotely collected data, and that’s what Wilson helps M2M customers with. We’re honored to be on the A-List in M2M along with some of the biggest names in the M2M market.”

Wilson’s award winning products are on display today and tomorrow in Miami at the IT Expo, booth #224. For the complete list of A-List in M2M honorees visit http://ne2ne.com/awardees.php?value=all.

Award recipients were evaluated, interviewed and vetted by the Compass Intelligence Mobile & Wireless analyst team. Next, a panel of independent experts including editors, analysts, and consultants voted via an online ballot. The criteria used in evaluating 2012 A-List in M2M entries include vision, strategy, leadership and governance, organizational structure and alignment, key customers, partnerships, processes, openness, operational and financial metrics and other qualitative factors.

Wilson Electronics DB Pro Directional Antenna Installation

by twhite 31. January 2012 08:49

Who doesn't love a good installation video? Outside of Goliad, Texas, @chocov and @nanpalmero installed a Wilson Electronics DB Pro. In this video, they change the antenna from the omnidirectional to a Wilson Electronics directional antenna to achieve an additional 6 dB boost. Prior to the installation of the Wilson Electronics DB Pro, they had to travel 1/2 a mile to have any cell phone reception!

Keep in mind folks, that even though a gain of 6dB may not sound like a lot, it is equivalent to 4X the power! With a gain of 6dB, 2X the coverage is possible.

The DB Pro cellular signal booster is Wilson’s dual-band (800 &1900 MHz) wireless amplifier for use in homes, offices and other buildings. Think the DB Pro may be perfect for your situation? Find a location near you where Wilson products are sold by visiting our store locator.

Wireless Wednesday--Our New Sleek 4G-V Signal Booster

by twhite 25. January 2012 11:56

As you know by now, at the beginning of the month, we announced our new Sleek 4G-V Signal Booster at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Take a look at the review @LaptopMagazine did while at the Wilson Electronics booth at CES. Excerpts of the article are included below--

"No matter how fast your wireless carrier’s network is, its value is instantly negated the minute you enter a signal dead zone. Phone calls don’t come in and emails don’t go out. And nowhere are you more likely to run into a wireless dead spot than while on the road. But Wilson Electronics’ Sleek 4G-V LTE can help you even the odds, boosting your Verizon 4G LTE signal in places that were previously nothing more than black holes for your data.
We participated in a demonstration of the Sleek’s capabilities at CES and were blown away by its sheer power. The system is set up as a portable cradle for your 4G LTE phone that attaches to your car’s dashboard. The cradle itself is connected to your car’s power adapter, while a second cable runs from the the cradle to an antenna that sits on the roof of your vehicle."
