This week for Wireless Wednesday we are looking at 3G and 4G speeds. The folks over at PC World took a closer look at the wireless service speeds in the US, and this is what they found out. Keep in mind that this study only includes data snapshot measurements of wireless service these in 13 cities--Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.

As you know by now, at the beginning of the month, we announced our new Sleek 4G-V Signal Booster at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Take a look at the review @LaptopMagazine did while at the Wilson Electronics booth at CES. Excerpts of the article are included below--
"No matter how fast your wireless carrier’s network is, its value is instantly negated the minute you enter a signal dead zone. Phone calls don’t come in and emails don’t go out. And nowhere are you more likely to run into a wireless dead spot than while on the road. But Wilson Electronics’ Sleek 4G-V LTE can help you even the odds, boosting your Verizon 4G LTE signal in places that were previously nothing more than black holes for your data.
We participated in a demonstration of the Sleek’s capabilities at CES and were blown away by its sheer power. The system is set up as a portable cradle for your 4G LTE phone that attaches to your car’s dashboard. The cradle itself is connected to your car’s power adapter, while a second cable runs from the the cradle to an antenna that sits on the roof of your vehicle."

This week for Wireless Wednesday we're talking about the smart phones out on the market today. As we all know, the holidays are just around the corner, and a new phone is likely to be on many people's wish lists. Not sure which phone is right for you? Check out this excerpt from @FierceWireless' holiday smartphone guide to get some more insight on the smartphone world.
"There are several themes that emerge when looking at the list. The most obvious is that three Tier 1 carriers--Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility and now Sprint Nextel--are supporting Apple's iPhone. T-Mobile USA, left out of the iPhone sweepstakes, is focusing much of its holiday marketing firepower on Android devices, which have accounted for the bulk of its device sales this year. At the same time, Research In Motion is trying to make a splash with its BlackBerry 7 devices in advance of its BBX phones coming next year, and Microsoft is hoping its Windows Phone Mango devices can find traction in a
crowded market."
Regardless of your wireless carrier, there are some pretty amazing smartphones out there. Some highlight phones include the iPhone 4/4S, the HTC Rezound, the Motorola Mobility Droid Razor, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the HTC Titan, the Research In Motion BlackBerry Torch 9860, and the HTC Evo Design 4G. To see the specs of these phones and others, check out this holiday smartphone guide in it's original context posted here.
Are you on the lookout for a new smartphone this holiday season? Know someone who is? What do you have your eyes on? Even if you aren't looking for a new phone, what smartphone do you wish you had--or are you pleased with the one you have? Let us know! We would love to hear your answers in the comments. Or you can Tweet them to us, or leave us a Facebook message.

It's that time of the week again! Today for Wireless Wednesday we are talking about an article featured on @GigaOm. The article is called "‘App gap’ emerges highlighting savvy mobile children", and it talks about the ways in which children interact with wireless technology. See an excerpt from the article below--
"You’ve heard of the digital divide, but how about the app gap? That’s the new term coined by Common Sense Media, which conducted a study looking at the amount of time children under the age of 8 are spending in front of screens.
Common Sense Media, a nonprofit group based in San Francisco, surveyed almost 1,400 parents and found that 47 percent of families with incomes more than $75,000 had downloaded apps for their children, while only 14 percent of families earning less than $30,000 had done so.
The study also found the following:
- 52 percent of all 0- to 8-year-olds have access to a new mobile device such as a smartphone, video iPod, or iPad/tablet.
- 38 percent of children this age have used one of these devices, including 10 percent of 0-to 1-year-olds, 39 percent of 2- to 4-year-olds, and more than half (52 percent) of 5- to 8-year-olds.
- In a typical day, 11 percent 0- to 8-year-olds uses a smartphone, video iPod, iPad, or similar device to play games, watch videos, or use other apps. Those who use mobile devices spend an average of 43 minutes a day doing so.
TV is still the most popular choice for occupying the time of children. Common Sense found that children 0-8 years old spend an average of 1:40 watching television or DVDs in a typical day. Infants and toddlers (0- to 1-year-olds) spend 53 minutes per day watching television and DVDs, twice the amount of time spent reading or being read to (23 minutes)."
Well there you have it folks! What do you think? Do you have children, and if so, do they know how to use smartphones or tablets? Do they use them on a regular basis? Let me know in the comments. Or you can tweet or Facebook us. We'd love to get your input on this topic!

This week for "Wireless Wednesday" we're talking about Apple's new phone, the iPhone 4S. As you probably know by now, Apple did not announce the rumored iPhone 5 yesterday. In case you missed the keynote, or want a refresher, take a look below at this excerpt from an @Engadget article.
"It's not an iPhone mini or anything, but it's the first iPhone with Siri. And that has to count for something, right? Right? While it's no iPhone 5 (not even close, really), the iPhone 4S is far from being "last year's iPhone," and the greatly enhanced camera, bolstered A5 dual-core processor and inbuilt voice command should provide plenty of reason for folks to upgrade if they're near the end of their contract. Furthermore, having the option on Sprint is bound to make folks already entrenched on the Now Network think twice about what their next phone will be come upgrade time.
We were able to spend a few quality moments with the refreshed iPhone 4 here at Apple's campus, the Sprint flavor no less, and as you might expect... it's an iPhone 4. But S-ier. Much in the same way that the 3GS improved the overall experience of the 3G, the 4S does likewise compared to the existing 4. The dual-core A5 chip is a laudatory improvement, and whisking about pages, loading the camera application and launching -- well, just about everything -- just feels zippier. As it should. The other major change, the antennas, weren't readily different at a glance, but as Mr. Cook stated, you'd have to be iFixit to notice (and we're sure they will)."
The article goes on to mention the 8 megapixel camera, the new voice command software Siri, and many other features in greater detail. To read the rest of this article, or to see it in it's original format, click here.
Well, what do you think about this latest iPhone news? Are you excited for the iPhone 4S, or were you expecting to see an iPhone 5? Or, maybe you are more of a Droid fan? Let us know in the comments, as we would love to hear from you! Also, check out what our 30,000 Facebook fans had to say about Apple's newest announcement!

Welcome to this week's installment of "Wireless Wednesday" where we discuss what's going on in the Wireless/Tech world. In case you missed our previous "Wireless Wednesday" post, click here. Today the wireless world is talking about the new Kindle Fire tablet. Read an excerpt of an article by @FierceWireless, explaining the announcement in greater detail below.
"Amazon.com unveiled its long-awaited 7-inch Android-based tablet, dubbed the Kindle Fire. The device, which has Wi-Fi but no 3G cellular connectivity, will cost $199 and go on sale Nov. 15. It will be available for preorder today.
The Kindle Fire, which represents the boldest challenge yet to Apple's dominant iPad, does not attempt to directly compete with it in terms of specifications or via a relationship with wireless carriers. Amazon's tablet, which runs a modified version of Google's Android platform, has no camera or microphone, and is $300 cheaper than the least expensive iPad 2 with Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Kindle Fire sports a dual-core 1 GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4 processor, 8 GB of internal storage and the battery is rated for eight hours of continuous reading. The device also uses Amazon's EC2 cloud computing engine to deliver a mobile Internet browsing experience Amazon calls "Silk." The service combines Amazon's EC2 cloud engine and the device to offer a faster browsing experience, Amazon said."
